The rhythm of this universe is ‘Time’ (Kaalam). The supreme authority of that time is Lord Kala Bhairavar. An intense manifestation of Lord Shiva, spiritual scriptures describe Him not just as the master of time, but as the administrator of human ‘Karma’ and its fruits.
Among His various forms, the most unique is the Navagraha Bhairavar—the form where He carries the nine planets (Navagrahas) within His own body. Witnessing this rare form is believed to grant immense remedial power (Parihara Shakti) to devotees.
Bhairavar Carrying the Navagrahas – What Does It Mean?
The nine planets—Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu—influence every stage of human life. However, Kala Bhairavar:
- Holds the energies of these nine planets within Himself.
- Controls the directional shifts and movements of the planets.
- Is the supreme power that balances the effects of one’s Karma.
This is why devotees believe that worshipping Bhairavar is the fastest remedy for Navagraha Doshas.
Navagraha Bhairavar Forms (Anatomy of the Deity)
In this rare form, ancient scriptures state that each planet resides and rules from a specific part of Bhairavar’s body:
| Planet | Position in His Body | Benefits Granted |
| Sun (Suriyan) | Head | Radiance, Authority, Paternal Blessings |
| Moon (Chandran) | Forehead | Mental Peace, Emotional Balance |
| Mars (Chevvai) | Shoulders | Courage, Valor, Efficiency |
| Mercury (Budhan) | Neck | Intelligence, Communication, Wisdom |
| Jupiter (Guru) | Chest | Spiritual Knowledge, Divine Grace |
| Venus (Sukran) | Abdomen | Wealth, Luxury, Harmonious Life |
| Saturn (Shani) | Legs | Relief from Suffering, Karmic Balance |
| Rahu | Right Side | Sudden Growth, Foreign Opportunities |
| Ketu | Left Side | Liberation (Moksha), Spiritual Growth |
Special Abodes of Navagraha Bhairavar in Tamil Nadu
The Navagraha Bhairavar form is rare and not found in all temples. However, a few places in Tamil Nadu are exceptionally significant:
Thennaga Kasi – Rattaisutripalayam (Erode)
Located on the Erode-Kangeyam road, this shrine is revered as “Thennaga Kasi(Southern Kasi).”
- It features not only the Navagraha Bhairavar but also the 64 Avatars of Bhairavar, each consecrated as individual idols.
- The entrance itself is a magnificent 39-foot-tall statue of Kala Bhairavar, one of the largest in Asia.
Benefits of Worshipping this Bhairavar
- Wipes away Navagraha Doshas and horoscope-related obstacles.
- Mitigates the negative effects of Shani, Rahu, and Ketu transitions.
- Removes hurdles in career and business.
- Balances karmic debts and brings inner peace.
Ways to Worship
- Ashtami Tithi: Worshipping on this lunar phase is considered equivalent to a million virtues.
- Offerings: Lighting Coconut Lamps (Thengai Deepam) is a powerful way to seek His grace.
- Compassion (Jiva Karunya): Feeding dogs (especially black dogs), which are considered His Vahana (vehicle), is the greatest remedy.
No matter how many obstacles arise in human life, the underlying causes are often Time, Karma, and Planetary alignments. Navagraha Bhairavar stands as the rare divine grace that balances all three at once.
“Time itself is Kala Bhairavar… If we surrender to Him, even Time will turn in our favor!”
